• Polystyvert raises over $16 million in first Series B funding round

    Polystyvert has closed the first round of Series B funding for over $16 million. This investment represents another step for the company towards the construction of its very first commercial plant in Québec, dedicated to recycling contaminated polystyrene waste. Other investors will participate in the second round of this financing to enable the Series B round to raise up to $30M.

    The Plastics Pathway, an initiative of Pollution Probe, the Toronto Zoo, and GreenMantra Technologies, has reached another important milestone with the paving of a section of the on-site path using asphalt-containing materials produced from recycled plastic. The 470 square metres of newly paved pathway showcases a circular solution for plastic, incorporating the equivalent of 100,000 plastic bags worth of post-consumer recycled plastic material. Mixing the asphalt with GreenMantra’s specialty polymer contributes to a reduction in the amount of plastic waste that ends up in landfill while increasing the durability of the pavement and extending its life.

    A coalition of plastic film recyclers and reusable bag manufacturers have launched the Responsible Recycling Alliance (RRA), a coalition organized to help Californians reduce, reuse, and recycle as a long-term environmental solution to plastic waste.

  • Coperion, Herbold Meckesheim to deliver bottle-to-bottle recycling plant to Magpet

    For Magpet Polymer Pvt Ltd, an Indian preform and plastic packaging manufacturer, Coperion and Herbold Meckesheim are collaborating to build a plant for bottle-to-bottle recycling from a single source. In addition to the mechanical processing of used PET bottles, the recycling system encompasses all process steps leading up to extrusion with a ZSK twin screw extruder, including pelletizing and an SSP (solid state polycondensation) reactor.

  • Covestro, Neste, and Borealis partnership will turn tires into new car parts

    Neste, Borealis, and Covestro have signed a project agreement to enable the recycling of discarded tires into high-quality plastics for automotive applications. The collaboration aims at driving circularity in plastics value chains and the automotive industry. When no longer fit for use, tires are liquefied using chemical recycling and then processed into base chemicals and further into polycarbonates of high purity. These can then be used in various automotive applications, from parts of headlamps to radiator grilles.
