SMX (Security Matters) has planned the launch of a plastic cycle token. The release is scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2024. SMX designed this token to present a reliable, ethical digital credit platform, aiming to capitalize on billions of dollars in recyclable plastics credits in a newly created market.

The Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) has joined the Canada Plastics Pact (CPP), which aims to eliminate plastic waste and pollution by bringing together businesses, government, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders in the Canadian plastics value chain. APR and CPP share the common goal of creating a circular plastics economy, where plastic is kept in the economy and out of people, animals, and the environment.

ISRI and The Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) have made updates to the ISRI specifications and APR model bale specifications to include updated recycled plastics specifications. Following a process between the two organizations and their members, the specifications were approved separately during October 2023 by both the ISRI Board of Directors and the APR Board of Directors. These specification updates are intended to more accurately reflect the recycled polypropylene (PP) and mixed rigid plastics currently being traded in the marketplace. Republic Services and Blue Polymers have broken ground in Indianapolis on a plastics recycling complex that will house a Republic Services polymer centre and a Blue Polymers advanced polymer production facility to supply recycled materials for use in sustainable packaging and other applications. Both facilities are expected to open in late 2024.

The Vinyl Institute (VI), a U.S. trade association representing the leading manufacturers of vinyl, has begun its second round of funding to five organizations totalling nearly $330,000 through its VIABILITY recycling grant program. This brings the total dollar amount committed to nearly $1 million due to contributions from Formosa, Oxy, Shintech, and Westlake. The second round of VIABILITY recycling grant recipients include the University of Florida, Auto Mats & Accessories, Green Eagle, the Vinyl Siding Institute, and the Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA).
