The Dangers of Space Trash

Jun 9th, 2022

At this point, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard of the mounting pollution crisis facing our world. Whether it’s about the veritable mountains of plastic growing in the oceans, or terrestrial landfills leaching toxins into waterways, it’s undeniable that we are facing a pollution problem. However, when people bring up ‘junk’ or ‘littering’, the first place that comes to mind, usually isn’t space

Testing Freshwater Microplastics

Aug 20th, 2020

In the past three years, my research has been specifically focused on oceanic microplastics. However, I was able to travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana to test the microplastics level in the St Marys River, and other freshwater sources this summer for a comparative study…

7 Type Of Plastics

Aug 10th, 2020

…to prevent plastic pollution from reaching the environment, many people have started to reuse and recycle these types of plastics. Recycling companies primarily separate the plastics into seven categories of the most used types of plastics…

COVID-19: A disaster for global human health AND global microplastic pollution!

Aug 1st, 2020

I have a five years old German Shepherd, who I love very much. When an article recently came out regarding the death of the first dog that was tested positive for COVID-19, I immediately thought about my dog. I was so worried – should I give him a mask in the future?

I’m honored to be one of Tumblehome’s newest – and youngest ever – authors, at age 13. It has been such a great experience writing and promoting my book Microplastics & Me, which has been a year-long project, due to be launched on February 1st.  The book follows my recent adventures in developing a national award-winning project focused on locating and identifying microplastics as they settle and aggregate along the seafloor……

The Future of Human Health Depends on Vaccination

Jan 15th, 2020

As I begin my work on Phase 3 of my project, I have been doing a lot more with the study of bacteria, zooplankton, and observing how they bind with microplastics, increasing the particle’s density. In studying how these bacteria bind to different types of dyes/stains versus plastics, I’ve learned a lot about pathogens in general. This season has been a particularly nasty one for pathogens, as many of my classmates have already gotten the flu this season. Those of us who have the flu shot tend to have it a lot better than those of us who haven’t, but by large, vaccines play a larger role for society and I personally feel that they’re very important for all of us. Here’s an argumentative essay I wrote about why increasing vaccination rates is so important for us all.

Tis the season to be plastic-free!

As of today, there are only 7 days left until Christmas! I always love getting out the Christmas tree, and decorating it. However, in these years, I’ve noticed that right after Christmas, some disposable plastics go right from the tree, and into the recycling can, such as candy-cane wrapper, and tinsel……
